Safe Harbor is by far the most spectacular location on the Port Road. In fact, it is probably the most spectacular location on any of the ex-Pennsy electrified lines. At the Safe Harbor Dam, the tracks of the Port Road cross over the outlet of the Conestoga River. There is, however, another bridge which overpowers the entire landscape. The steel deck-girder bridge overhead carried the tracks of the Pennsy A&S Branch over the Conestoga. This trackage was abandoned in 1990 by Conrail. Despite that, it is still an excellent photo prop. If you do not plan on trying to catch a train here, I do highly recommend you at least stop in and take a look around. The entrance to the dam is accessed from River Road (turn at the sign for the dam). You can park at the fishing area just after you cross under the two railroad bridges. This lot is open from 6am - 8pm during daylight savings time and i think 7am-5pm during the winter months.
CP WEST HARBOR is located right at the west end of the bridge. This is the start of a siding, and features a PRR signal tower over the tracks and a dwarf signal. Also, just west of the bridge is the 33.6 detector. This used to be just a hot box/dragging detector, but NS has recently added a clearance detector as well. There is a path behind the guard shack that goes up to track level, or you could shoot up to the tracks from the parking lot.
