H18 heads eastbound past the old site of CLY tower behind two SD60Is and a GP38-2; an SD70M-2 leads H95 under the 702E signal.
H95 ROUNDS THE CURVE UNDER THE 702E SIGNAL BRIDGE (PIC ABOVE) 1:09 - 4.0MB
Cly used to be the site of a fairly important junction on the Port Road. There used to be an interlocking tower here that controlled movements between the Northern Central trackage to Baltimore and (what was then) the Enola Branch trackage. Upon visiting this location, you will notice how wide the catenary supports are. At one time, there were 4 tracks here, the 2 closest to the river (and then only ones remaining) were the Enola Branch and the other 2 were the Northern Central. There is a short stub-end track remaining which sometimes has MOW equipment on it, but that's about it. There are some PRR position light signals here, which make an excellent photo prop.
Getting here is easy, just follow Route 262 south from Goldsboro. There are two crossings which have a little space for parking, or you can bear to your left right at the signal bridge. This will get you off of Route 262 and onto the appropriately-named Railroad Avenue. Follow this road and continue straight when the street makes a hard right. Driving back here will get you to the old site of CLY Tower. Now it's basically a large clearing. The 701W signal is visible here (remember that signals west of WAGO reflect old Northern Central mileposts from Baltimore). Back at the grade crossings is the 702E signal which is atop a catenary support, and slightly on a curve. This is probably the best location in Cly.
